DC on the DL

Some of you know this already, although I haven't told many people for fear of jinxing things.

Tuesday I had an interview.
At the British Council.
In Washington, DC.

That about sums it up, really. I applied for a Marketing Coordinator position with the British Council, which would entail marketing studying abroad in the U.K. to American students. (Something I have just a wee bit of interest in!) They called me last week and asked me to come for an interview after Thanksgiving. On Tuesday I woke at 4:30 a.m. 19 hours later, I had:
  • flown over the Pentagon and Arlington Cemetary as we landed.
  • called 911 and ordered an ambulance for a woman--she'd tripped on the curb in front of me and dislocated her shoulder.
  • walked around the Mall, with the Capitol Dome on one side and the Washington Monument on the other.
  • driven down Embassy Row, with embassies from every country in the world flanking both sides in a myriad of different architectural styles. Small countries like Lesotho had tiny buildings, others like Turkey grand ones.
  • been buzzed into the British Embassy compound, past a police car that has sat in front 24/7 since 9/11, and through gates and past receptionists behind bullet-proof glass.
  • had a 1-and-a-half hour interview, where the two interviewers asked me 7 pages of questions and took notes on everything I said.
  • visited the new Museum of the American Indian, part of the Smithsonian.
  • sat on the runway for 2 hours while we waited for good weather.
The gist of it is that if I start, it will be in January. I'll find out early next week, and will be sure to let everyone know. I'm sure I'll be emotional: I'll either cry because I didn't get the job, or cry because I have to leave Chicago. No matter what, there will be tears!

Thanks for the support, everyone! I've been having anxiety dreams and can't sleep, so the sooner this is all over, the better. Will keep you updated as soon as I get a letter/email.

No word yet, and I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much. I'm not sure how to do the percentages, but if they interviewed 3--4 other people I have something like a 15% chance of getting the job. I expect I'll get a letter something around Wednesday. And if I don't, I can probably assume I didn't get the job, so y'all will have to put up with me being around a while longer.
