Cold & Cold

"You have great hair," the messenger guy leered at me on Friday.
"Thanks," I politely sighed. "But I haven't even brushed it today, and I'm coming down with a cold."
"I always say that's when women look their best," he replied. "When they don't try."
I gave him a wan smile in return, and thought no more of it.

Un-looked for compliments happen with enough regularity that I wrote it off to the fact that, well, I do have some pretty nice hair. There's a girl here who tells me that every time I see her, and it's started to go to my head.

5 minutes later the man returned.

"My wife and I got sick when we came back from Maui. These really work." He plopped down two Alka Selzer citrus-flavored Cold & Flu tablet packs. "Just take one of these tonight and one tomorrow, and you'll feel better right away."

I was floored, flabbergasted. Here I thought he was a smarmy middle-aged guy, when in fact his compliment was not only genuine, but he was kind enough to go downstairs to his truck and return with medicine. It made my entire weekend. And the best part? The tablets really did help.
