A Man, A Plan, A Canal...Panama

To everything there is a plan, or so believe a couple of friends. Be it getting into (or rejected from) grad school, to breaking a bottle of wine, they think each small piece of life is part of the greater puzzle. A bit fatalistic, mayhaps, but perhaps they're on to something.

Case in point: Monday marks my last sick day and last day of being officially employed. This afternoon I got a call from the law office I interviewed with in January, asking me if I'd like to be hired full-time as a receptionist/filing clerk. Salary, health insurance, vacation days--the works.

I must admit to not being entirely cheerful at this news. What with spending the past two nights watching the first season of The Office, I took to heart one of Dawn's quotations: "It's better to be at the bottom of a ladder you want to climb than halfway up one you don't."

Indeed.

So what will be going through my head tomorrow morning as I call to accept the job? Paying rent, not embarrassing my father (who helped pull strings to get me this position), paying my huge credit card bill. Being able to buy shoes. Uh, yeah, that's about it. Shoes.

In all honesty I'm going to still look quite hard for a ladder I do want to climb. Taped onto my door are five "ideal jobs" and steps to achieve getting them. At the mo' I'm a tad embarrassed so won't share them in public (if this can be called such). But check back here to see of any progress.

Everything's falling into place, it seems. Had I not gone to Europe I might not have been fired. Had I not been hit by the car I might have been more upset at being let go. Had I not been laid off I wouldn't have been able to work on a movie set (which I did this Tuesday) or get a free $200 haircut (which I did today). So all-in-all, life is looking good. Which is, I don't need to remark, pretty good to say.

What's with the palindrome as your title for this post?

This palindrome has been bouncing around in my head recently for unknown reasons, and I thought since I was talking about "plans" I would use it. Isn't it cool?

And thanks for posting. There should be more of this! Post, people, post!
